Come listen to the HonorsX students present their research work with a panel-style Q&A after! Light snacks and beverages will be provided.The HonorsX minor brings together an interdisciplinary community of students, faculty and partners from industry, government and nonprofit sectors to wield the power of interdisciplinary thinking to propose solutions to our most pressing societal issues. The theme for AY 23/24 is “Who are we 2030? Envisioning sustainable societies.” As part of their work, students propose and conduct original research to inform their solutions and understand the needs and priorities of stakeholders. 

Representatives from each interdisciplinary group will share their research in five short (7-8 minute) presentations.

Grad Slam 2024

Hosted by the College of Graduate Studies, the 菠菜网lol正规平台 Grad Slam, also known as a three-minute thesis competition, is an exciting and fast-paced event where graduate students present their research in 3 minutes and with one slide to a non-specialist audience. Ten student finalists will compete in front of a live audience and a panel of judges, and will be scored on their ability to communicate their work and its impact effectively. This is not a research competition, it is a research communication competition. In addition to being an outstanding way to highlight 菠菜网lol正规平台’s faculty-mentored graduate student research, Grad Slam is a transformative professional development experience for graduate students.

The Environmental Resource Center (ERC) at San José State University is thrilled to announce our annual Earth Day celebration! This event continues the tradition of 菠菜网lol正规平台 alumnus Gaylord Nelson ('39), the co-founder of the original Earth Day in 1970, which ignited a passion for sustainability for 20 million people on college campuses across the nation.

For Earth Day 2024, we're turning up the heat on plastic pollution with the theme “Planet vs. Plastics!” Join us as we unite the 菠菜网lol正规平台 community and beyond to raise awareness about the critical issue of plastic waste and explore innovative solutions for a cleaner planet.

Free food, information on internships, and highlights of 菠菜网lol正规平台 faculty and Bay Area organizations environmental research activities will be available to participants. All 菠菜网lol正规平台 students, faculty, and staff are welcome.

Artificial Intelligence Futures Forum

Join us on April 19 at the San José State University Student Union Theater for an enlightening forum on artificial intelligence (AI) futures. The first hour will feature 菠菜网lol正规平台 efforts in developing, researching, applying, and assessing AI. President Teniente-Matson will then moderate a keynote panel with two leading voices in Congress, U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren and Anna Eshoo, as they delve into the opportunities and challenges presented by AI, and the federal government's role in guiding its progress. Gain valuable insights on how 菠菜网lol正规平台 is already leveraging AI to address real-world problems and improve the research, teaching, and learning enterprises, and how we can shape the responsible advancement of AI.

19th Annual College of Science Student Research Day

Working directly with College of Science (COS) faculty, many undergraduate and graduate students are engaged in original research projects on a wide range of scientific topics.  Since 2005, the student researchers have presented the results of their original work in the form of posters during the COS Student Research Day.  Approximately 100 posters will be displayed and the student authors will be present to explain their results.

San José City Hall Rotunda Concert and Sound Projection

Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. | Location: San José City Hall Rotunda

The San José City Hall Rotunda Concert and Sound/Visual Projection consists of a live performance of music for a mixed ensemble (flute, soprano saxophone, baritone saxophone, percussion, and violin) and electronics. It places site-specific spatial acoustics and performer/audience distribution at the foundation of the creative compositional process. Composers/faculty members Pablo Furman and Christopher Luna-Mega explore various aspects of the concept of the Rotunda under the lens of San Jose's public works and the general soundscape: traffic infrastructure, hi-tech high rises, bridges, un-housed encampments, sacred spaces and spaces of education and knowledge.

The concert will feature projections of visual digital art generated by Andrew Blanton and collaborators from the CADRE Media Lab at 菠菜网lol正规平台.

Performers: Ray Furuta, flute; Michael Hernandez, soprano saxophone; Aaron Lington, baritone saxophone; Pablo Furman, percussion; Catalina Barraza, violin.
